Getting around in deep space or even between the planets of the solar system with our current transport technology is a slow business taking months and years, so to save resources, weight and keep the crew from climbing the walls we could put them into a form of suspended animation much like animals that hibernate.
Current medical thinking is that we could do it for maybe months at a time and have this ready in the not too distant future. In this video, we look at if we could really Could we Really Sleep in Space for Years?
